International Federation of Robotics Report

The new IFR World Robotics report shows an all-time high of 517,385 new industrial robots installed in 2021 in factories around the world. This represents a growth rate of 31% year-on-year and exceeds the pre-pandemic record of robot installation in 2018 by 22%.
Despite this the IFR reports that UK industrial robot installations were down 7%, with an operational stock in 2021 now less than a tenth of Germany’s.
At Thomas Brown Engineering, we invested in our first robot in 2021. It serves our Brother Speedio multi-tasking machining centre, pictured here. We have seen first-hand the huge productivity benefits that robots can bring to our manufacturing operations, increasing the value which we can deliver to our customers.
It seems imperative that UK manufacturers are supported to embrace automation if we are to compete on the global stage into the future and maintain our reputation as a significant manufacturing nation.
